note = {The synthesis, crystallography and spectroscopy of seven systematic series of dinuclear coinage metal(I) NHC complexes are shown here. As counter ions, bromide and the bulkier hexafluorophosphate are studied. Both gold(I) and silver(I) serve as metal centre. The NHC ligands are based an imidazole or benzimidazole. All compounds vary in the length of the alkyl chain, respectively linking two NHC units. Flexible alkyl linkers were chosen to systematically study the influence of the linker length on the conformation of the gold macrocycles with special respect to the formation of intramolecular gold-gold bonds.},
