This thesis consists of three self contained essays about the influence of worker self selection on rising German wage inequality. Chapter 1 analyses the influence of changing returns to occupational skill on overall wage inequality, in the face of worker self selection. In Chapter 2, I study the importance of shifts in skill prices for declining wage differences between men and women. Chapter 3 investigates the impact of worker sorting across locations on growing spatial disparities.
