Landschaftsökologische Untersuchungen im ausgekohlten rheinischen Braunkohlerevier auf der Ville

Abstract

Der durch den Braunkohlentagebau bedingte Landschaftswandel rückt in zunehmendem Maße in den Blickpunkt der Öffentlichkeit. In zahlreichen, teils pamphletischen Schriften werden die Vor- und Nachteile des Bergbaues diskutiert. <br /> Auch die Geographie hat die hier gebotenen Forschungsmöglichkeiten genutzt. S. SCHNEIDER gab 1957 das Luftbildheft des Rheinischen Reviers heraus, und nach Abschluß der vorliegenden Arbeit erschien von H. BARTHEL (1962) die umfassende Darstellung eines mitteldeutschen Revieres. <br /> Im Sinne einer landeskundlichen Monographie befaßt sich meine Arbeit mit dem naturbedingten Wandel des ausgekohlten Rheinischen Reviers. Es wurde bewußt auf eine Gesamtdarstellung aller Probleme des Bergbaus, so der wirtschaftlichen und soziologischen Aspekte, verzichtet. Vielmehr soll hier eine Darstellung der naturbedingten ökologischen Faktoren gegeben werden. Es konnten gewisse Gesetzesmäßigkeiten der Landschaftsentwicklung aufgezeigt werden. Der Wandel vollzieht sich in Sukzessionsstadien der Landschaft, die in vielfältiger Abwandlung - je nach edaphischen und hydrologischen Gegebenheiten - von ersten Pionierstadien der Besiedlung bis zum Wald fortschreiten.

<strong> Studies on Landscape Ecology in the Cologne-Lignite-District of the Ville-Horst </strong> <br /> lt is a somewhat rare opportunity to study landscape ecology in a rapidly changing landscape, as is the case with the Cologne-Lignite-Region of the Ville-Horst. Only an adequately detailed analysis of the various ecotopes with respect to soll, microclimate, plants and animals renders the insight into the sequence of the biotic successions possible. <br /> The complete form families of fluviatile erosion can be observed en miniature on the bare slopes of the artificial hills with their earth-pyramids, ravines and landslips. Especially the moist soil that consists mainly of coal-dust favours the formation of needle ice, often in a stripy alineation due to wind action (Windgestreifter Auffrierboden, TROLL 1944). <br /> The abiotic factors,- extreme edaphic and microclimatic conditions with daily amplitudes of more than 40° C and the possibility of frost almost all over the year - render the development of a new vegetation rather difficult. Nevertheless there is a spontaneous, quickly proceeding settlement by various plants. The ecotopes are continually changing; there are successions not only of plantassociations but of whole sites. <br /> With respect to landscape ecology, the various new lakes are especially important. They influence the ecoclimate and the distribution of soil-water and provide a new place for many plants and animals. Thus we have the complete successions of waterplants; associations come into existence that were unknown in the pre-industrial landscape. Animals quickly occupy these free places that are a rare exception in the present day industrialised landscape. In these newly developing ecotopes several animals hitherto unknown in this part of Germany are found, e. g. the common gull. <br /> The study and description of the landscape ecology is concerning the natural ecotopes and their biocoenoses as well as the agriculturally and forestially recultivated parts of the Rhenish Lignite Region.
