Reconocer la infancia y sus derechos

Abstract

El presente artículo aborda la participación de la niñez en procesos de transformación social, entendida como el eje articulador de los derechos de la infancia. Se toma como ejemplo la coyuntura sociopolítica que atraviesa Chile a partir del establecimiento de la Convención Constitucional en julio del año 2021. Esta instancia democrática permite analizar la relación que han tenido las instituciones estatales chilenas de protección de derechos con los niños, niñas y adolescentes durante los últimos treinta años. Asimismo, se dan a conocer los debates surgidos desde el campo académico de los estudios sociales de la infancia, que evidencian la indudable capacidad de agencia de la niñez en la estructura social. Estos planteamientos en su conjunto se suman a una comprensión emancipadora de la infancia que ayuda a repensar la participación social de la niñez y, con ello, repensar la democracia.

<strong>Recognizing children and their rights</strong> <br> The present article addresses the participation of children in processes of social transformation, understood as the articulating axis of children’s rights. It takes as an example the socio-political situation that Chile is going through since the establishment of the Constitutional Convention in July 2021. This democratic instance allows analyzing the relationship that Chilean state institutions for the protection of human rights have had with children and adolescents during the last thirty years. Likewise, debates that have arisen from the academic field of social studies of childhood, demonstrating the undoubted children’s capacity of agency in the social structure, are also presented. These approaches as a whole add up to an emancipatory understanding of childhood that is related to the rethinking of children’s social participation and thus, the rethinking of democracy.
