Abstract

Currently, the European Banking Union with its three pillars is being negotiated and gradually implemented. The Banking Union is aimed at preventing a renewed escalation of the sovereign debt crisis as experienced since 2008. While in the media and in political debates it has been claimed that the economic crisis has been a crisis of the EU itself, a closer look shows that the integration process is continuing and increasing. <br> This new edition of the "Future of Europe Observer“ gives a brief description of the facts and arguments put forward in this debate about the pros and cons of a banking union in the EU.

Die derzeit vollzogene Implementierung der Bankenunion ist ein wichtiger Baustein auf dem Weg, eine künftige Wiederholung der europäischen Staatsschuldenkrise durch eine gestärkte Wirtschafts- und Währungsunion zu verhindern. Während in den Medien und in vielen politischen Diskussionen die ökonomische Krise der EU als Krise des Integrationssystems selbst antizipiert wird, zeigt ein genauerer Blick, dass der Integrationsprozess derzeit weiter voranschreitet. <br> Die neue Ausgabe des "Future of Europe Observers“ gibt einen Überblick über die Fakten und Argumente, die in der Diskussion über die Vor- und Nachteile einer europäischen Bankenunion vorgebracht werden.
