Current modes of production and consumption are incompatible with a state of nature that ensures a safe human existence. How to best transition to sustainable economies? This dissertation studies societal (Chapter 1), economic (Chapter 2), and political (Chapter 3) challenges for such a transition and makes policy recommendations.
