Abstract

The inscriptions of Palenque provide us with a number of extended narrative texts that are rich sources of Classic Maya terms for various classes of objects, used both in simple descriptions and in metaphorical contexts. Review of a 3D-model rendered from a structured light 3D-scan of a fibre-glass cast made from Maudslay's mould of the left part of the panel from the sanctuary of the Temple of the Sun at Palenque, which is housed in the Bonner Altamerika-Sammlung (BASA), revealed another term previously unknown in the Maya epigraphic record.
