note = {This thesis consists of three self-contained essays in microeconomic theory. The common theme of all chapters is the analysis of collective decision problems in which efficient decisions depend on information that is privately held by individuals. Chapter 2 studies optimal provision of public goods. In Chapter 3 we propose a class of mechanisms for coupled binary decision problems. Chapter 4 studies efficient information aggregation in a setting where individuals have both private preferences and private information that is relevant for everyone.},
