Geschichtstradierung in den yukatekischen Chilam Balam-Büchern

Abstract

Die vorliegende quellenkritische Untersuchung folgt der Zielsetzung, den Ursprung und die Bedeutung der yukatekischen Chilam Balam-Bücher in der Zeit ihrer Verwendung zu analysieren. Diese Aufgabenstellung wurde exemplarisch an einer historisch-narrativen Textgruppe untersucht, den sogenannten Chroniken. Die Aufgabenstellung wurde weitgehend mit Hilfe von synchronen und diachronen Textanalysen gelöst, die in der Tradition literarkritischer Methoden stehen. Die Auswertung der Textanalysen führte zur Rekonstruktion der ursprünglichen Textvorlage, zur Identifikation der Informationsquellen der indigenen Schreiber und zum Erkennen verschiedener Bearbeitungsstadien der historisch-narrativen Texte bis zu den inhaltlichen Gestaltungsprinzipien der abschließenden Version. Es wurde möglich, verschiedene Schreiber innerhalb eines Textes anhand ihrer Charakteristiken in Stil und Inhalt zu erkennen. Eine Zusammenführung der Ergebnisse ermöglichte es, die Entstehungsgeschichte der Chroniken und darüber hinaus die der Chilam Balam-Bücher von Tizimin, Mani und Chumayel zwischen 1550 und 1837 nachzuzeichnen. Vor diesem Hintergrund ergab sich eine neue Perspektive auf das historische Selbstverständnis der kolonialen yukatekischen Maya-Gesellschaft und der Beitrag der Chilam Balam-Bücher als historische Quelle in der Erforschung der Maya-Kultur konnte neu definiert werden.

<b>Historiografía en los Libros del Chilam Balam: Un análisis del origen y del desarollo de ciertos textos históricos<br /></b>El examen crítico actual tuvo como meta la investigación del origen y el significado de los Libros del Chilam Balam durante el tiempo de su utilización. El proyecto fue realizado eligiendo una clase de textos en su totalidad a través de todos los libros y el análisis de estos según la crítica textual de modo syncrónico y diacrónico (como se conoce de estudios literar-críticos). Los textos elegidos eran las crónicas, porque presentan un tipo de discurso histórico narrativo. Los resultados permiten un entendiemiento amplio de los principios constitutivos en su última revisión. La revelación de características individuales en la composición de cada crónica permitió reconstruir tanto el tipo y contenido del modelo básico, como el poder identificar sus fuentes y reconocer las diferentes etapas en el desarollo textual de la primera formación hasta su última revisión. Es posible distinguir varios escribanos según sus características estilísticas y semánticas. <br /> La realización de los estudios descritos resultó en el establecimiento de un modelo, mostrando el proceso histórico de la formación del texto y la reconstrucción de la historia de los Libros del Chilam Balam de Tizimin, Maní y Chumayel desde sus inicios hasta su forma final (entre 1550 y 1837). Así, la importancia de los Libros del Chilam Balam logra una definición nueva como fuente histórica en la investigación de la cultura maya.

<b>Historiography in the Books of Chilam Balam: An Analysis of the Origin and Development of selected Yucatec Historical Reports </b><br /> The critical examination at hand focueses on the origin and importance of the Books of Chilam Balam during the time of their use. The research was undertaken by selecting one class of text from the books and analyzing this in accordance to synchronic and diachronic text critics, as they are known for critical literary studies. The classes of texts chosen are termed - the Chronicles - as they present a type of historical narrative discourse. The results permit an extensive understanding of basic semantic and temporal principles at the time of their last reproduction. Furthermore, the detection of individual and distinctive features in the composition of each text allowed the reconstruction of the original text and the identification of the original sources, used by the indigenous scribes. In addition it permitted the recognition of different levels in text development for each Chronicle from its first formulation through its last revision. It was possible to differentiate various scribes in each text through analysis of their distinct stylistic features. <br /> This led to the establishment of a model, revealing the historical process of text formation and, by synthesizing all the results, allowed the reconstruction of manuscript history of the Books of Chilam Balam of Tizimin, Maní and Chumayel between 1550 and 1837. Thus, we gained a new perspective on the historical auto-reflection of colonial Yucatec society and the importance of the Books of Chilam Balam found a new definition as a historical source in the research of Maya culture.
