note = {This paper is an attempt at an inventory — alas, certainly not as poetic as Perec's. A number of distinctive spaces in urban Mazār-i Šarīf are described, each of which is deeply affected by gender divides. The inquiry focuses on the production and uses of spaces designated for women. It attempts to shed light on the kind of agency that permeates secluded spaces. This work bears testimony to a time (where women have room for themselves in public space) that may pass fast — a fear shared by many in Northern Afghanistan today.},
